Blue and white vs. blue and gold. Cross-town rivals La Habra and Sonora have butted heads for years, competing in sports such as basketball, swimming, track, soccer, tennis, softball, and baseball, but most importantly, football.

The winner of the La Habra vs. Sonora Varsity football game determines the home of the trophy that has traveled back and forth for 15 years between the feuding teams.

Currently, the trophy is in our possession. LHHS has been the owner for three years, counting the victory against Sonora, Oct. 20. According to Los Angeles Times, La Habra has had the trophy for 11 of the 15 years. This year we were able to sit on the “home” side of the stadium, unlike last year when we were designated the “visitors” side.

Long before tension with Sonora began, LHHS’s rival was Lowell High, which is now Los Angeles College Of Chiropractic.

Besides taunts and hollers for school pride, both La Habra and Sonora have been known to pull pranks against one another. Chemistry teacher, Lezlie Dahlberg remembers the time Sonora blew off a chunk of our prized senior rock.

Another harassment that took place, was when Sonora threw tortillas at a varsity home basketball game, shouting phrases like “guadalahabra”.

Can Sonora’s gun toting man ever measure up to La Habra’s Highlander, with his bagpipe of steel and his plaid kilt. “No!” replied junior student Jackie Salem.

With this years game, LHHS students posted signs reading “Break out the tortilla’s ‘cause your gonna get rolled!” all over the Raider campus. It proved true later that night when Sonora was defeated, 21-7.
